Drill core. Lower Carboniferous. Markhamville, New Brunswick. New Brunswick Museum (NBME 1197). Specimen width 3.5 cm. The manganese mine that opened here about 1862 was a significant manganese producer, exporting 55,000 tons of ore. Manganese was used in the production of glass, varnish, cement and steel. The mine closed in the early 1900s.
