Pyrolusite: manganese ore. Lower Carboniferous. Markhamville, New Brunswick. New Brunswick Museum (NBMM 1416). Specimen width 7 cm. In the 1860s George Matthew found pyrolusite and manganite near Markhamville. The discovery led to a successful mining operation that was a significant manganese producer, exporting 55,000 tons of ore.
