Firebrick, Armstrong Lime Quarry, Green Head Island, Saint John, New Brunswick
Backphotograph: Firebrick, Armstrong Lime Quarry, Green Head Island, Saint John, New Brunswick, 2008 New Brunswick Museum. Firebricks used to build the kilns for burning the marble were imported from the Gartcraig brickworks near Glasgow, Scotland. Firebricks made to withstand the high heat of the kiln were not manufactured in New Brunswick until late in the 19th century.
