Insect: Xenoneura antiquorum Scudder. Upper Carboniferous. Saint John, New Brunswick. Collector: C.F. Hartt and J.W. Hartt, c. 1860. New Brunswick Museum (NBMG 3018). Specimen width 6 cm. Although the Fern Ledges gained its name from the plant fossils, the site has produced other interesting fossils. Phoronids, crustaceans, and xiphosurans lived in brackish coastal waters. A lowland community of snails, insects, arachnids, and myriapods inhabited coastal forests.
