Acanthodian Fish: Gyracanthus cf. duplicatus Dawson. Upper Carboniferous. Minto area, New Brunswick. Collector: M. Lee, 1998. New Brunswick Museum (NBMG 10736). Specimen width 15 cm. Lakes and shallow marine waters of the Upper Carboniferous were teeming with fish. Sedimentary rocks near the central coalfields of New Brunswick have only recently yielded fossils of acanthodians (often called spiny sharks), true sharks, lungfish, and rhizodonts.
