Snail: Dendropupa primaeva Matthew. Upper Carboniferous. Saint John, New Brunswick. Collector: G.F. Matthew, c. 1890. New Brunswick Museum (NBMG 3332). Snail shell length 4mm. Although the Fern Ledges gained its name from the plant fossils, the site has produced other interesting fossils. Phoronids, crustaceans, and xiphosurans lived in brackish coastal waters. A lowland community of snails, insects, arachnids, and myriapods inhabited coastal forests.
