Dalhousie
Rocks and fossils near Dalhousie have been studied for more than a century to describe the shallow Devonian ocean environment. Abraham Gesner collected some of the earliest fossils in about 1840 as part of his geological survey of the province. The most comprehensive list of fossils was prepared by J.M. Clarke and published in 1909 in New York State Museum Memoir 9. The fossil list includes corals like Favosites and Zaphrentis; brachiopods like Leptaena and Spirifer; and a rare occurrence of the giant sea scorpion Pterygotus.
