Bon Ami Rocks, Dalhousie
The Bon Ami rocks in Dalhousie form a scenic point jutting into the Bay of Chaleurs. They are composed of andesite, an extrusive igneous rock that erupts as volcanic material. Andesites are common in volcanic island arc settings. Volcanic rocks around Dalhousie sometimes show evidence of lava erupting into water. Basalt erupts into pillow shaped mounds that show a chilled margin where the outer cools quickly when expose to water. Palagonite tuff results from hot lava turning water to steam causing the basalt to form into small glass fragments.
