Lawrence Morris Lambe

Lawrence Lambe was the vertebrate palaeontologist at the Geological Survey of Canada from 1885 to 1919. He was an expert on dinosaurs and Paleozoic corals of Canada. Lambeosaurus lambei, a duck-billed dinosaur, was named after him. Lambe also studied paleoniscid fish from the Albert Formation shales of New Brunswick and produced a beautiful Geological Survey of Canada Memoir in 1910 to describe the fossils. As part of his work Lambe examined fossil specimens in the collection of the Natural History Society of New Brunswick. Those specimens are now in the collection of the New Brunswick Museum. The rock containing fish fossils near Albert Mines is an oil shale. These fine-grained papery shales were deposited on the bottom of a lake.
