The Narrows, Saint John

If you have every sailed down the Saint John River toward the Reversing Falls, you’ve sailed through ‘The Narrows’. The Precambrian Green Head Group is visible here on both sides of the river, giving sailors and boaters a glimpse of the rock formation that supplied marble to feed the many lime kilns in the area. Quicklime produced from this rock was used for mortar to cement the building stones used to rebuild Saint John after the Great Fire 1877.
