This is a small phyllocarid crustacean, related to shrimp and krill. Phyllocarids still exist today and have a fossil record all the back to the Cambrian Period more than 500 million years ago. A shell, or carapace, comprised of two valves covers the head and thorax. Part of the segmented abdomen can be seen behind the carapace.
