Bathurst Connolly Quarry

The Connolly Quarry (or Nepisiguit Quarry) near Bathurst is one of the oldest granite quarries in northern New Brunswick. It began operation in the 1860s. Some of the stone from this quarry was used to construct bridges for the Intercolonial Railway. This pink granite was used in several well-known buildings in Bathurst. The Sacred Heart church, school and rectory were all built from granite thanks to Reverend Thomas Barry who admired the qualities of this granite as a building stone. The same stone was used to build the Gloucester County Court House.
