Staphylinid beetle: Olophrum boreale (Paykull). Quaternary. Sheldon Point, Saint John, New Brunswick. Collector: R.F. Miller, 1988. New Brunswick Museum (NBMG 10729). Specimen width 2 mm. Fossil fragments of beetle exoskeletons are preserved in ancient peat bogs and lake sediments. This thoracic belongs to Olophrum boreale; a small beetle that is found today in Canada’s subarctic. About 10,500 years ago it was living in southern New Brunswick.
